Humble Beginnings

From modest beginnings in 1997 with just on 1000 tickets sold, the Gisborne Wine & Food Festival grew to a nationally celebrated event and at its peak saw 5000 tickets snapped up. In 2016 we celebrate two decades of wine and food on the East Coast.

Setting the Stage

Gisborne’s traditional Labour Weekend Wine festivities took on a new direction last year with a range of wine and food events over the long weekend. We have taken the best parts of the “Weekend of Wine & Food’ so that once again wine lovers can enjoy a variety of wine and food experiences around the region.

The region’s cellar doors will open on Saturday with many also hosting their own unique events. The region’s cellar doors will be open on Saturday with many also hosting their own unique events. On Sunday we invite you to the Wine & Food Weekend Festival, a ticketed event where participants will transfer their tickets for a glass & wristband and catch buses from "Wine Central", a shared venue at the Showgrounds Pavillions, just five minutes out of town.

Buses will follow one continuous loop to take you to the three Winery Venues and it is anticipated that tickets will be limited to 2000 to ensure winery venues can manage demand effectively. There will also be complimentary buses provided at designated bus stops from Wainui to the "Wine Central" to start the winery route about the three winery venues from 10.30am to 1.00pm. Buses will return punters into town from 4.30pm onwards to the same designated bus stops until 6.30pm.

The Winery Venues will operate from 11.00am until 6.00pm giving participants time to get involved with auxiliary evening wine and food related activities

$40 including complimentary buses and available through Ticketek and i-site Gisborne and the Gisborne Wine Centre - Inner Harbour

This is an exceptional reason to participate in this year's weekend as it heralds the 20 year celebration of the event for Gisborne.
